Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. Mark 13:31 (Matthew 24 & 25, Mark 13:1-37, Luke 21:5-36)
As Jesus and the disciples leave the Temple for the last time, one of them comments on its magnificent, architectural beauty. Jesus cryptically mentions the destruction of Jerusalem and all that is within its fortified walls. As the disciples gathered in an olive grove, they asked what Jesus meant and when these things would occur. This begins Jesus’ discourse on the end of this age.
Death is only three days away, so Jesus openly speaks of things to come. Soon Jesus’ friends will face their darkest days, so He takes great pains to prepare them for their mission. While only God knows the time and date, Jesus reiterates over and over, Just Be Ready!!
The components of readiness are understanding your accountability for the gifts you have been given and time you spent in diligent preparedness. The manner in which you treat others is a big, big deal! Consider every action toward another as if you are addressing, hosting or abusing Jesus Himself, because that is how He will judge your behavior.
Our earthly selves have a shelf life, even Jesus’ did, but His words, the breath that set life in motion, will be forever. This is our hope, to believe and then live in readiness to do His will, whatever it is, whenever and wherever we are called.
Love,
Gretchen
Good Morning Gretchen,
Thanks for your diligence in knowing your savior and sharing the TRUTH with those who read your insights. I have to admit that these writings are becoming a steady habit and ritual to my morning routine. Last night when I was praying I left my routine of remembering my family and just had some alone time with the Lord about me. Kind of selfish maybe, but when I was praying I couldn’t get my mind off of these inner yearnings that have been vague, nondescript and intangible. Maybe it is from not being where God wants me- even though that is my prayer. I know that he has had me studying Behavior Analysis for a purpose so the next logical step would be to get certified as a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), but my own self doubt keeps interfering. When you spoke about Jesus’ instructions to the apostles for readiness, it struck a nerve that reminded me to just believe- even in the wondering and what seems like a wandering between two points. One point is where we know what we know from life experience and (2) the prospect of what will come that hasn’t been seen yet- or faith! Have you any advice for those who live in the realm of doubting his/her own constitution being mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and social? Just putting this down with thoughtful prayer has helped me. Thanks for giving folks a place to share their contemplations, curiosities, and steady movement toward the goal we all share. Phil
I do have some advice, but it sounds very cliche when written down. I suggest set a time of fasting and ask God for specific direction. He always answers. He doesn’t dangle a carrot and never lets us feast. If you see your destination, then you will know where the journey must. go. If you are to be a BCBA then self doubt will have to be put away. Remember, God knows all the deepest, darkest corners of our heart, and He hasn’t said, “Boy I didn’t see that coming.” or “Wow, I don’t think I can handle this one.” AND I KNOW HE IS NOT SAYING, “Son, it’s time you learn to figure some things out on your own.” What ever you decide, determine to walk forward hand in hand with the One that wove you together and created a plan for you to be productive and bless others.
